Dear All,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our seventh year of High Holy Day services at St. John’s.
2011 has already distinguished itself as a year of signals from the Earth itself that chased us inside, in the form of Tsunamis, Floods, Tornados, and Hurricanes; and the world around us that demanded our introspection via the continuing economic roller coaster, jobs crisis, and worldwide political unrest.
Who by fire? Who by water?
B’Rosh Hashanah yikateivun, u’v’Yom Tzom Kippur yeichateimun.
On Rosh Hashanah will be inscribed, and on Yom Kippur will be sealed.
I am looking forward to our time together, davening, praying, communing and sharing stories. Fair warning: I may tell the Tiger story again. How fortunate it is that we can come together to create an atmosphere in which we can immerse ourselves in the healing elements of Rosh Hashanah and the joy of Yom Kippur.
As the book says, “The gates are made to be entered.” See you in shul.
L’shanah tovah!
Daniel Neiden, Cantor
P.S. Leonard Cohen wrote a brilliant song based on the “unataneh tekef” prayer called, “Who By Fire.”
Seating is limited, so please let us know that you're coming.
